Being Black
Why is it so hard to be black? Just like you, I didn’t pick my race. However, I was born with the privilege of being black. I’m proud and wouldn’t change anything about it. It’s sad that people will hate you for the color of your skin. It’s sad that cops can raid your house in the middle of the night; while you’re asleep and shoot you to death. It’s really sad that we can’t go for a run without being looked at as a threat. And again SHOT TO DEATH. Like we’re animals! We are not animals and we are not threats. Our blood bleeds red just as yours!
I am tired. Tired of my people dying over the color of their skin. You don’t know us. You don’t know our hopes and dreams. You don’t know if we’re the only providers for our families. If we just got married or have a baby on the way. YOU DON’T KNOW! Why take someone’s life because of what they look like?! You are not God. You don’t get to decide if black people live or dies.
I am angry. Angry that my people are constantly losing their lives for just living. A man heard a knock on HIS door, and opened it to an off duty cop that was “too tired” to pay attention to the fact she wasn’t at her home. So what does she immediately do? Kill the black man. A teenager was just walking home from the store and his life ended because of the hatred of his skin. Last week, a man was murdered in broad daylight. A cop felt the need to have him pinned to the ground in handcuffs with his knee on his neck. George Floyd BEGGED for his life. "Please, I can't breathe." And that wasn't enough. Did I mention, that the officer kept his knee on George's neck after he passed out and shortly died? Did I mention that no other cop on the scene tried to stop him from killing that black man? Shameful. It’s too many stories of my people being wrongfully killed. Too many names.
I am disgusted. America, the land of the free. LAND OF THE FREE?! We are a damaged country. My brothers and sisters and I are NOT free. We are targets and for what?! I will never understand how the color of my skin can determine if my life matters. If I deserve to live. Yes, I’m aware that there’s black on black crime every day, but that’s not THE point. THE point is, my people are being killed from people that’s sworn to protect and serve ALL MANKIND. Last time I checked, mankind had several skin tones. You don’t have the right to pick and choose who to protect when you take this job. Shout out to the officers that DO THEIR JOB, by protecting and serving ALL MANKIND! You are not ignored.
This WILL NOT continue. 2020 has been a crazy year, but this is the year that everything starts to change. This is the year where the hate dies and we get the right people in charge. No more bloodshed. No more of my people being looked at as an animal. A threat. A thug. Because baby we’re beautiful and you know it. We’re smart and you know it. We’re strong and you know it. We’re united and you know it. You hate that we have a voice. You hate that we’re making a change. You hate that we’re outsmarting you. But guess what? Love ALWAYS win!
Revelation 21:4
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Romans 12:19
“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”
